And so to the last day of the fair. A day of sorting out and packing up. For those of you looking for game reports you might as well move right along now......
I had intended to get up and get all my games for shipping off to the fair early, and some final playing and buying done before my duty on the Sunriver Games booth, but it didn't work out that way. I managed to sleep in until 0930 (considering I've been getting 4-5 hours sleep per night for the past 5 days it's not surprising) so didn't manage to complete my shifting of games until exactly when my turn started. So that took me up to 1430. Only 3.5 hours of show time left!
I used most of it for shopping for games for the last few areas of space. My final big (ish) box games were Antike, Big Kini (with expansion) and last year's Kinderspiel des Jahres winner, Geistertreppe.
I had a brief explanation of Antike yesterday, but was unsure whether to buy. After talking to others I was convinced, and grabbed one. Looks interesting, and has lots of bits to play with. It also has a double sided board, with a different map.
Big Kini I bought mostly from the buzz going round the fair and the fact that it was at/near the top of the chart. Ken, Robin and I got a brief explanation from the dealer and both bought copies. Another actiony type game where you do stuff, get stuff, which allows to do other stuff. I look those sorts of games, so I was happy to add it to the pile.
I was on the lookout for games for school, and although I had plenty of card type games, I didn't have any decent sized board games. I came across a retailer with both the 2005 and 2004 Kinderspiel des Jahres winners, and picked the latter on his recommendation.
After that it was all small or smallish card games. I picked up quite a few Adlung card games (5 for 10€) and another 10 or so at around 5€ each. Lots more of various types at the 5€ mark, most of them for the younger kids.
Soon it was 1730, and time to return to pack my boxes for shipping, write up the paperwork and help clean up the Sunriver booth. We had over 20 boxes of games to ship between us and Funagain, although KC was about 8 of those boxes.
We took a last look around the halls and I saw Friedeman Friese over at the 2F booth. i had been carrying a Power Grid France/Italy around all day just in case I saw him, and this was my last chance. I dashed back to the booth to grab my backpack, but by the time I had got back he had disappeared again. Rats. I picked a path at random and chased down just in case and almost ran right into him on his way out. So, it was a happy ending after all.
Back to the hotel, some food, and time for a couple of games. We played Sticheln with 8 players, which was a bit wacky, and then Diamant. I'd never played this one before, even on BSW, but I'd read the various reviews on BGG, so it wasn't hard to pick it up. A decent, light, push your luck game. However, even at 15€ it seems a trifle much for what it is.
And here we are with the final blog entry from Germany ready to go. An early morning flight and it's back to reality. Bummer.
